This week has been a little…off. My wife was rear ended a couple of days ago (no injuries but destroyed car) so it’s been a lot of walking and dealing with insurance claims, assessments, and all that jazz.
This means I have even more indie music piled up in the inbox to choose from this week. Let’s jump into it!

Eric Taylor Escudero – We Were Young and It Was Morning Part 1
Eric Taylor Escudero has been featured in For Folk’s Sake, With Guitars and FAME Magazine. With The Vinyl District calling his LP “an utterly stunning collection of alternative-folk vignettes that definitely deserves your attention,” Escudero is getting ready for a great year. Check out the debut album on Bandcamp.
The Person & The People – Hot Summer Nights
For nearly a decade The Person and The People have been a fixture in the Twin Cities’ “indie” scene and their experience is evident not only in their enchanting, nuanced live performances but also in their seemingly endless arsenal of catchy rock songs. Based on their past releases and their ability to navigate seamlessly from crunchy, beer-drinking guitar riffs to wistful ballads to angsty break-up songs, one can truly expect anything from their upcoming release Dark and Low.

Paradox & Imperial – “Some Nights” ft nobigdyl., Cataphant, & P.A.T. Junior
On “Some Nights,” the first leak from their upcoming joint project, rapper Paradox (Denver, CO) and Illect Recordings’ producer Imperial (Cambridge, UK), enlist the significant talents of heavyweight spitters nobigyl. (Murfreesboro, TN) and P.A.T. Junior (Raleigh, NC), as well as songbird Cataphant (Chicago, IL), to offer a series of glimpses into humanity’s daily ups and downs.
Don’t move an inch when I open my lens. I’m trying to show you a sense that what they go through’s intense.”
Marc Russo – Nobody Knows (Instrumental Rock/Pop)

Vocals can be overrated and sometimes I just like to vibe out and jam to some really fine musicianship. Connect with Marc Russo on YouTube or ReverbNation.
WE-ARE-Z – Easy
WE-ARE-Z produce quirky, rhythmic indie ‘wonk-pop’ born out of many wine fuelled late night jam sessions in bass player Archie’s studio in London. Their idiosyncratic songs are largely observational, yet fully accessible, inspired by weekend booze fuelled culture and the late night chaos found in many British cities and towns, the increasing acceptance of the plastic surgeons knife as the norm, the futility of man’s desire for ever increasing material acquisition and madness in its multifarious forms.

Animal Noise – Sink Or Swim
The incredibly striking video from Animal Noise, created by Maria Rocha, blends live action with a range of animation techniques to create an alternate reality; intricate pen and ink drawings are juxtaposed with collage landscapes, which challenge our protagonist at every step.

Kate Vargas – Second Skin
The Berklee College of Music grad is an Albuquerque, New Mexico native who moved to New York in 2011 to kick off her solo music career. Vargas soon landed spots at various music festivals and gigs at national and international venues, including the Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival in Ireland, London’s The Troubadour, Kex in Reykjavik, Iceland, The Mansion on O Street in Washington, DC and New York’s Midtown Live, where Vargas shared the stage with Southern gothic rocker, Lincoln Durham. (The Bluegrass Connection) raves that Vargas “masterfully assimilates her southwestern storytelling into a medley of blues guitar, bass lines and faint banjo pluckings. It’s her throaty rock vocals, though, aged far beyond their actual years, that pierces through it all — drawing you in for more.” Let Vargas draw you into her story and don’t miss more “first-class dark Americana” (New York Music Daily) tracks from outlaw, Kate Vargas!

The Tin Man – Too Many Lines EP
The singer-songwriter is a former lawyer and tech entrepreneur who left the security of the corporate world two years ago to pursue his lifelong passion for music. The Tin Man’s unique professional journey and confessional-style music quickly attracted media attention, including a feature with WXIA-TV’s “11 Alive” in Atlanta and an interview with Coy Wire from Headline News’ “The Daily Share.”

Passport Sound – Meet You Halfway
I’ve gotten to know band member Jesse Phillips over the past month through Snapchat. His band Passport Sound is based in Nashville and they sound great. Jesse also works as a session musician and posts some entertaining Snaps.
