The MiCKS Renew The Old School With Their Self-Titled EP

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman December 12, 2012 9:22 am Tagged With: garage, Rock

Analog EP by The MiCKS

The MiCKS keep it classic while delivering a fresh platter of garage rock heart and soul.

The band was founded by brothers Matt (singer/songwriter/guitarist) and Sam McMickle (drums), and also includes Hank Prol on bass duties.

This New Jersey trio is a combination of your favorite rock spices: a dash of Led Zeppelin, a pinch of The Who, throw in a tablespoon of Neil Young blended with Bruce Springsteen, then top it off with a splash of The Beatles and set the grill on the fire.

The result is a tasty collection of rockin’ tunes on their self-titled EP, The MiCKS. And yes…it was recorded analog!

My favorite tracks at the moment are The Dry Splash, Dancing for the Smokers, and Different Walls.

The MiCKS have seriously captured the classic rock atmosphere on this record. At times I found myself questioning whether or not I was listening to  The Who or The MiCKS.

The bottom line is that this band knows their classic rock very very well and they have managed to capture and release the same great spirit that drove your favorite rock records back in the day.

If you have been missing classic rock ‘n’ roll, look no further. The MiCKS EP released on Dec 11th [2012].

“We decided after our experience with the 4-track and revisiting many classic records that we had to use tape and we had to keep it analog all the way. We tracked most of it up at Dreamland Studios, an old converted church in West Hurley, NY. To the MiCKS it’s a work of art we are most proud of.”
