Tenn Pound Hammer Interview

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 13, 2013 11:43 am

MusicTree Festival will be going down June 7 – 11 in Manchester, Tennessee. We will be publishing info and features about the bands as we close in on this event. Feel free to check out our coverage from 2012.

Tenn Pound Hammer

Let everyone know who you are, where you are from and what style of music you play.

We are Tenn Pound Hammer from Nashville, TN. We specialize in the fine blending of rock, soul, blues, and gospel.

What do you do for fun? You know…besides music?

Jonathan likes to spend most of his free time studying the Bible, leading worship, and being in fellowship with friends and family.

When Ian is not playing music he enjoys long walks by the Cumberland River with his teacup poodle named Donut.

What was the last song you listened to?

Jonathan – The last song I listened to was Lion of Judah.

Ian – The last song I listend to was mmmbop by Hanson.

What did you listen to when you were younger? What do you listen to now? Have your tastes changed?

Jonathan – I listened to a lot of 80’s metal when I was younger and the older I got I found out there was other music that impacted me more like blues and soul. I LOVE and I am heavily influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder.

Ian – I listened to a lot of boy bands like Backstreet Boys and N’sync but now I mostly listen to man bands like Aerosmith and the Foo Fighters.

Was there an “ah-ha” moment in your life when you knew music would be the path you were going to walk?

Jonathan – I love music and even though I did not realize it at first, it is a gift that God gave me, and I believe that he wants to use it for his purposes and I am completely okay with that.

Ian – I love music.

How did you hear about Music Tree Fest? How do you feel about being a part of Music Tree Festival?

Jonathan – I first heard about Music Tree Fest on the internet one day when I was searching for gigs. We did not know what to expect at first but the entire experience was a blessing. Music Tree is run by an absolutely incredible team of people. It is our favorite festival to play and in one of our favorite towns to play in.

Do you have plans for Bonnaroo?

Jonathan – I think every band has plans for Bonnaroo. Figuring out how to get there is another story all together. We are believing that we will definitely make it there one day. If we do make it to Bonnaroo, we know exactly where we will be playing the week before for as long as Music Tree will have us!

Do you have an album available? Where can we get it? Where can people connect with you online?

Jonathan – Our album just came back from mastering, and we are trying our hardest to get it released for the first time ever at Music Tree!

*Special note* Ian never got back to me with his answers to these questions so I took poetic liberty with filling in the blanks for him. I hope you all enjoy!!!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
