Get Off Our Lawn! A Rock and Roll Testimonial by The fundaMentals (album review)

Get Off Our Lawn!

Enough said right!?

Shut Up and Get Off My Lawn by fundaMentals

Not only is this a declaration you might hear from your neighbor as he cusses Jehovah’s Witnesses for interrupting his morning, but it is also the latest release from The Worlds Oldest Garage Band, The fundaMentals! Get Off Our Lawn: A Rock and Roll Testimonial is twelve songs of pure rock power and surprising rock ballads.

The ‘Mentals, after a couple of drummer changes, currently include: The Icon, Danger Dan, The Mad Bomber, Hoss, and The Hammer. Fueled by beer, their lyrics and songs are as colorful and entertaining as their names.

The Mentals sound is screaming guitars, synthesizers, thundering bass lines, heavy drums and fun lyrics, but they also know how to slow it down and deliver something with meaning and heart (shhhh..don’t tell them because they might toss those songs like they would Hoss, if he wasn’t such a large figure)!

Get Off Our Lawn is rock and roll at its core. Blazing guitar on the lead track “I Do It All For Rock and Roll” followed by “Tick Tick Boom” which is accompanied by Hoss’s piano and the gravely lead vocals of The Icon.

Later songs on the album pay homage to a rock and roll staple – beautiful ladies. Songs like “Don’t Want To Feel Like This”, “You’re Not The Only One” and “I’m Not Afraid ” show a different, somewhat introspective, side to the band. The ‘Mentals show off lonesome lead riffs and lyrics that really add another layer of substance to all the fun.

Much like their Bio the ‘Mentals songs are cleverly crafted. “She Wouldn’t Shut Up”, “Guess Who’s Not Invited” and “Its Good To Be Me” showcase this well.

“She Wont Shut Up” is about a cross country trip with a pretty woman who bitches from start to finish. “Guess Who’s Not Invited ” is a song for a hard-ankled stick in the mud who is more attractive…but less fun than her sister. It has a great blues rock feel to it.

Overall, Get Off Our Lawn is a beer drinking, hard rocking joy ride. The fundaMentals really take the fun to heart – from their music to their website and all the way down to their Bio.

Grab a drink! Here’s to the fundaMentals. Always rocking out on 11 and doing it for the music!!
