Release of “Da Lontano” by Romina Power is not Far Away

by C Bret Campbell October 8, 2012 12:00 pm Tagged With: Experimental, Jazz, World

Purchase Da Lontano

I got an advance copy of “Da Lontano” by Romina Power (CDMN), today! The album is due to be publicly available in the U.S. in October, 2012, and is already receiving beaucoups air-play and accolades in Europe.

Miss Power has been a world known independent musician and artist for – well – a while now. With a few little credits under her belt, like world-traveller, film star, stage star, internationally known painter, winner of awards in countries around the globe, author of several books, and motion picture writer and producer, I guess she decided to do something unusual and put out a record, again. And what a record it is!

All of those experiences come together on this album to create a series of soundscapes that take one on a tour around the world of a soulful artist that can paint a master-piece seemingly at whim.

The world influence definitely comes out as we make it through several styles. The production is fantastic, with beautiful strings, amazingly powerful guitars, crafty synths, and instruments of all sorts, both acoustic and electronic, all blended with exacting detail; a testament to the artistry of Romina’s songs.

With sounds reminiscent of Joan Baez, America, CSNY, Styx, Django, and even The Wailers, her songs have just the right amount of complexity to never be dull, but not so jazzy and “easy-listening” as to seem too musically intelligent. The mood is relaxed, in places and longing in others, satisfied and happy, seldom sad. She writes about serious topics and light-hearted fun and keeps the record moving like a small party that starts at a nice dinner with friends and progresses to a romp on the beach with mojitos and a bon-fire.

I can’t pick a favorite tune, yet. They are all good – quite good. Perhaps I can list one for you by the time the disc is available for you.

Update: 8 Oct, 2012, Da Lontano is now available!

It has been Tuesday in Europe for 23 hrs and Romina’s release is moving! It’s available in the States, too!

Sorry, I still don’t have  a favorite…

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
