Danish alt-rock four-piece Love Talk released their powerful, grunge-tinged new single Her Name Is Jenny on May 19th (2017) via Rasta WTF Studio Productions.
Her Name Is Jenny, inspired by a girl they met at Roskilde Festival in 2014, focusses on the blurred lines between obsession and admiration for someone. The track is driven by heavy licks and pulsating beats sounding akin to Silverchair and L7’s 90s-infused rock, revamped with the Love Talk touch.
In this interview spotlight, we chat with Love Talk about the new release, listening preferences, influences, the digital music age and more.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
There are many different things. One thing is that the alternative genre in general just has a lot more personal values to offer within the music, not to mention many things that are being tabooed in daily life. Another thing is the element of noise, especially the kind of harmonized noise that is being used in a genre such as shoegaze. It’s a great mystery for us as artists to find a perfect combination between a really noisy, annoying and crumbling element in sound and simple, beautiful harmonies and pop-song structures. Which I think we are definitely achieving at some point.
What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?
Casper, the lead singer has been writing and producing since he was what, 12 or something. For him it’s a matter of life and death to be creating songs and sounds as the only thing that seems logical to be doing in life. And I think that is a fact that we all have inside ourselves, whether it is lyrically or in the studio where it happens. Being a Danish band, inspired by genres that has been made in much more culturally open and bigger countries, it is a deeper feeling and ambition that we have, wanting to push our music to the most international level possible. And not necessarily being seen as a Danish band either.
Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?
Persons. Everything from inspiring people to the hectic love life. All our inspirations has changed a bit, but I would rather say that our inspiration has being expanded a lot over the last couple of years than changed. Which is a good thing.
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
Yes, indeed. We are playing a self-made genre that we call ‘’skygaze’’. Skygaze is a combination of Britpop, grunge and shoegaze; Three very characteristic genres that outdid each other during the 1990s. We don’t feel those three genres have been combined for real before, so that’s where we have found our sound. Neither of us would be happy by having a 100% shoegaze-record. It’s all about reaching out to a lot of different people – WITHOUT having a sound or record that is considered over-produced and polished. We want to get down to the roots of the fresh and hard-hitting atmosphere of some of the 90s music. In all ways.
What was the last song you listened to?
‘’Red Dress’’ by Sugababes.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Now, it’s all good. But we tend to spend so much time in front of the computer or whatever. It’s getting quite boring. But BandCamp is a great site for uploading a single with b-sides.
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?
Our current destination. When you’re in a smaller country, and even in a smaller region of a country, the access to culture and contacts is very limited.
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more music?
YouTube. You can find both b-sides, live footage and music videos there.
