Kristen Faulconer Isn’t Missing a Thing!

by C Bret Campbell September 2, 2012 12:43 pm Tagged With: Electronic, Pop, Rock

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of abuse and destruction, Kristen Faulconer has a new strength, a renewed passion and a zest for life causing her to spread her wings and ride the winds of the musical sky-scape (hey I made that one up). The current seems to be in her favor, as she’s been nominated for all kinds of awards including:  The Malibu Music Awards 2012 in the Rock category for “Best Song” for her song, “Slow Down” Feat. Raymond Herrera (from Fear Factory) on THQ’s International Video Game Alive: MX vs. ATV 2011.  2012 Nominee at The Hollywood Music and Media Awards in the “Rock” category for her song, “Phoenix” Feat. Chet McCracken, The Indie Music Channel Awards for “Best Rock Artist”, 2012 Nominee and Finalist at “The 2012 All Indie Music Awards” for “Best Rock Artist”, and a bunch more!

An adopted child who suffered abuse and criticism hid in the world of music for years, like it was a protective shell. Then came a day when that shell cracked and the phuenix was re-born, full of fire, life, love and energy.

These are the things that come across in the ep of tracks that Kristen sent me. Honest writing about pain without a bunch of “poor me” howling, her songs are introspective yet focused outward to a world that needs a good message. The message she sings is strong because of it’s simplicity; “Be strong, be patient, this too shall pass, and you will be even stronger in the end.”

She’s been compared to Evanescence, Paramore, and Avril Lavigne, and I can see that. But hey, this is the old guy writing, here, ya know… Missing Persons – that’s my comparison of choice – listen to Kristen and those other cats, then check out the old guy’s reference, you’ll get it. Cool guitar riffs (not too polished), great drums, neat synth bits, and a groovy fast-paced vocal style fit the mood and subject of the songs perfectly! Oh, and there’s not too much “tuning” on the vocal! It actually sounds more like very slight double and flange effects than autotune. For you non-tech folks, that means, you can hear her sing!

While new pop rock is not normally my bag, this is going to be on my playlist for a while. I highly recommend Kristen Fauconer. Fans of  dance, pop, rock, and alternative are sure to dig it!

Want to connect with her or grab some cool tunes? Here’s the skinny….
