Karlex – Paris, New York, Port Au Prince

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman March 29, 2013 6:58 pm Tagged With: Funk, World

“Very often I say, I did not write my songs but they found me,” Karlex explains in typical humble fashion.

Paris New York Port Au Prince by Karlex

Karlex has been referred to as the “Bob Marley of Haiti” due to his bold brand of ethno musicality.

Growing up under a dictatorship didn’t leave young Karlex many options but to have fun. He found that fun in music.

On his new album Paris, New York, Port Au Prince, this young talent delivers a top notch world music collection. With pristine production, an eclectic range of influences, excellent musicianship, and profound songwriting – Karlex has composed an album from the world world, for the world.

Every track jams! Aptly referring to his music as Afro Groove, this soundscape is filled with groovy jams, funky bass lines, and tasty guitar tones. This is definitely music for the soul.

One of France’s biggest record chains chose him as “Talent to Watch.” His tunes have made appearances on Zone Interdite, an esteemed TV magazine show in France. He has played at MIDEM in Cannes.

His previous release made it to the number one spot on Radio Africa 1 and the video for its lead single garnered regular rotation on Europe 2 TV and M6 Black.

Now it’s time to help him spread his frequencies across America.

“Haitians have a very philosophical way to live their hard reality—they always say tomorrow will be better, and always finding the strength to keep dancing. I wanted to have a joyful song to speak about this,” Karlex says in reference to his inspiring song “Ca Moin Oue”.
