Kalen Is Falling From The Sun

Falling From The Sun by Kalen

Kalen has soul and a voice ready to cause an epidemic of addiction.

Her upcoming release, Falling From The Sun, is a groove-laden, blues-filled, electro-rock experiement that would make Peter Gabriel and Portishead proud.

“Having been in a funk band for so long, I love a purposeful groove. I love writing licks and rock riffs and incorporating those into more ballad-y and introspective music,” Kalen explains.

This album is a lot more than catchy licks and groovin’ rock riffs.

Through each track, you feel like you could be falling from the sun. This is a dark soundtrack that leaves you feeling a strange sense of hope.

“The whole EP, Falling From The Sun—the image of crumbling things—is not negative, things need to fall apart before being rebuilt,” Kalen says thoughtfully. “The EP is about personal things and a commentary on the world. It’s involution and evolution.”

Kalen grew up in New Hampshire and began learning piano at age 7. She wrote her first song at 11. Her piano teacher helped her produce the song which included sound effects such as lightning. This gave Kalen the foundation she needed to continue self-producing her music.

Falling From The Sun was recorded in her apartment as well as Tainted Blue Studios in New York (where she is a session vocalist). Together, Kalen and her engineer Matt McCorkle set up stereo mics and committed random acts such as beating mallets onto pillows, pinching sand between fingers, and recording the sea.

Before going solo, Kalen first fronted the avant-funk band Ladybug Stingray which combined dance grooves with performance art. With this band, she performed all over the States including NYC’s Webster Hall and L.A.’s Whiskey A-Go-Go. She also headlined The Wassaic Project’s summer festival twice.

Falling From the Sun will be available December 1st.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
