Interview with Smooth Hound Smith

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 7, 2013 12:22 pm

MusicTree Festival will be going down June 7 – 11 in Manchester, Tennessee. We will be publishing info and features about the bands as we close in on this event. Feel free to check out our coverage from 2012.

Smooth Hound Smith

Let everyone know who you are, where you are from and what style of music you play.

We’re called Smooth Hound Smith. Presently we’re based out of our 2006 Ford E-150 van, on tour for 6 weeks. We play a form of broke-down blues-y American music as a two-piece.

What do you do for fun? You know…besides music?

Hang out with our dogs, eat mexican food, find great hair products.

What was the last song you listened to?

“Daydream” by Youth Lagoon. Good drivin’ music.

What did you listen to when you were younger? What do you listen to now? Have your tastes changed?

We listen to everything. Literally. That weird genre/artist you’re thinking of now? We listen to it.

Was there an “ah-ha” moment in your life when you knew music would be the path you were going to walk?

We’ve both been musicians since a very young age…I think a lot of folks play when they’re younger, and slowly people drop off, give it up for law school, or a higher paying job, or just other interests…and eventually, if you do it long enough, you just end up DOING it.

How did you hear about Music Tree Fest?

Das interwebs.

How do you feel about being a part of Music Tree Festival?

Honored; privileged; sweaty.

Do you have plans for Bonnaroo?

Unless someone wants to hook us up with free passes, we’ll probably continue on our tour route through the southwest, then back to Los Angeles.

Do you have an album available? Where can we get it? Where can people connect with you online?

Thank you for asking! We actually just released our debut, self-titled full-length album this week! You can get a physical copy from us at our shows (check SmoothHoundSmith.com for dates), or you can find it digitally on our bandcamp page, here: www.smoothhoundsmith.bandcamp.com. Folks can also connect with us on facebook and twitter…instagram…all the requisite social networking sites.

Any last thoughts? Shout outs?

Brevity is the soul of wit.
