Interview with Chase Perryman and the People Familiar With The Situation #MTF14

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman March 30, 2014 11:01 am Tagged With: Blues, Rock

MusicTree Fest will be taking place in Manchester, Tennessee – June 6-7, 9-10. We will be publishing interviews with the performing bands as we close in on the 3rd year of this festival. View the full line-up.

Get FamiliarLet’s start with the basics, who are you? Where are you from? What style of music do you create?

Chase Perryman & The People Familiar With The Situation is Chase Perryman (lead vocals and guitar), Nathan Donaldson (lead bass and vocals), Cory Flippo (lead drums and vocals), Daniel Shearon (lead guitar and vocals and beard)

We are from Shelbyville / Murfreesboro

Our music is rock and/or roll with bluesy, soul elements mixed in for flavor

This is MusicTree Fest’s 3rd year. Is this your first time? If yes, how did you learn about MusicTree?

We played the first day of the festival last year at Just One More Bar & Grill with The Buddy System and The Tim Turner Band. We had a blast

Was there an “ah-ha moment” in your life when you knew you would pursue music?

Most of us (meaning the band as a whole) have had the music bug since before we knew what an Aha moment was.

Who (or what) motivates and inspires your writing and playing style(s)?

Chase: Songwriting for me used to be self indulgent and therapeutic. Now with an awesome band backing me and feeding me cool vibes, I put my creative energy into writing songs that are fun for us to play and entertaining for the audience. We draw influences from a lot of different places from classic artists like Pink Floyd, The Allman Brothers, Otis Redding and Clapton to newer folks like The Black Keys, Cake and Counting Crows.

What can we expect from your performance at MusicTree Fest 2014?

A consistent and unique sound, a straight-forward rock show with a Martha Stewart style cooking/craft demonstration if time allows.

Where can we connect with you online? Where can we listen or download your music?

Getfamiliarmusic.com is our website; FB: facebook.com/chaseperrymanmusic; Twitter: @chaseperryman also we are on Pandora, iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Pirate websites, dental fillings and at Justin Berry’s house, tell him Owen sent you.

Do you have plans for Bonnaroo this year?

No, last year we made it into the finals for Soncibids’ Road to Bonnaroo and we hope to get there in the not too distant future.

Any closing thoughts? Shout outs?

Do zebras dream in black and white? AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
