Chris and Daya’s Envy of Stars

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman September 15, 2016 7:14 pm Tagged With: Folk, Pop, Rock, singer, songwriter

Chris and Daya-Envy of Stars

Chris and Daya’s album Envy of Stars is smooth like butter, tasty like grandma’s finest jam, and more polished than a freshly shined pair of Sunday shoes.

I’ve been trying to listen to this album front to back (without distraction) for a couple weeks now and finally…finally that uninterrupted piece of time came. The result?

Envy of Stars hit me like a hammock in the cool breeze after a long day with a room full of crazy Kindergartners.

…seriously, this was the best “winding down” music after my crazy day of sub-teaching Kinder.

Chris MacVittie and Daya Rawat are the masterful folk-rock duo that is Chris and Daya.

Despite knowing each other as teens, Chris and Daya have pursued solo music careers for the past two decades, only coming together in 2015 to realize their undeniable creative chemistry.

Chris, originally from Boston, has released two records under the name The MacVitties where he performed with his father, Fred. Their Love Letters album hit #26 on the Folk-Roots Radio Charts and resulted in several years of live shows throughout the New England area.

Daya is native to Malibu, California but travels the world, pilots multi-engine planes, and serves as the President of the Prem Rawat Foundation where she exercises her passion for peace and human rights. Daya’s work as a session vocalist has landed her engaging vocal stylings on a long list of albums for various artists.

Envy of Stars is the duo’s debut album but you’d never be able to guess it considering their combined experience and how naturally the two musicians go together.

I could sit here and talk about each of the ten pristine singles that make up this well crafted record but there’s really no need to go on and on about how every song could fit into any folk/rock playlist with ease.

Or how these guys need to be on more radio stations.

Or how the combined talent of these two belongs on the top shelf next to the finest wines; aged just enough to be perfect.

Or even how you will want to listen to the album again long after it’s over. And if you don’t listen, you’ll be humming and singing the hooks and melodies because…well…they’re memorable, catchy, and they stick with you long after the music has ended.

Envy of Stars is a must add to your indie music collection. Show your support by grabbing a copy.

Chris and Daya have a new album on the way! We will have more information very soon.
