Can You Really Download a Custom Mix of Your Favorite Band?

by C Bret Campbell February 9, 2014 4:43 pm

I was blown away when I got the email from Andrew of Awake Awake and Featuring.me, so I hit him up right away to tell me more.

Last month, Nashville-based Synth Rock duo Awake Awake became the first band to sell their song, “Heal”, as a Track(db) to their fans via Featuring.Me!  We couldn’t imagine a more creative, and hard working band to launch our first externally created Track(db) than these fine guys.  Listen to Awake Awake’s “Heal”here

“Wait, are you telling me that I can download a custom mix of the songs I like best?” I asked him. “Yep,” he said. Ok, he said more than that… we had a private hangout last week with Andrew and Greg, and they filled me in. We’ll be featuring a special segment of Mid Tenn Listens with them real soon, let me whet your whistle with this…

Featuring.me doesn’t just let music lovers download a track. Instead, they are given access to a Track Data-base which has different segments of a song recorded in different ways. We get to select which parts make up the end song!

Listen to the parts and choose what you like. You like the long synth intro and the rockin guitar solo, cool. Maybe I’ll grab the straight in version with a synth solo!

The cats that got this thing going are brilliant, if you ask me. They’ve all been in and around the industry for years and have enough credits under their belts to stress the buckles.

And they’ve just added a new CFO!

We’d like to welcome our new CFO, Brad O’Shoney! Brad is a financial executive with 30 years of experience in a variety of industries from construction, distribution, music and healthcare, but he is anything but a typical accountant. Brad formed and moderated a Music Row CFO Round Table discussion group and was CFO for one of the largest producers of vinyl records in the world who produced records for nearly every major and indie record label.

Awake Awake are a Nashville alt rock band that have been RoKKin’ the area and ears across the nation for a few years, now. We’ve always liked featuring them on Mid-Tenn. To get you in the mood for putting your first Awake Awake mix together (do that here), here’s a sample from their latest record called “Heart on Fire.”

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
