Weaving influences and sounds that coalesce from folk songs, chants and prayers going centuries back into European and Middle Eastern history, Edery’s music is a tapestry spanning various cultural and musical traditions resulting in a spiritually infused synergy of devotional and secular songs that touch the far-reaching Sephardic Diaspora (link opens in new tab).
With those influences in mind, Gerard Edery‘s compositions command a high level of respect. On a continuous mission to uncover and preserve songs, stories and melodies specific to his cultural history, Edery’s music maintains a spiritual depth rarely seen in music of any form.
He is considered an expert in the wide array of music found within the context of the Sephardic Diaspora. Gerard has received the Sephardic Musical Heritage Award and also a Meet The Composer grant for his original music. His performances are in high demand across Canada, the U.S. and Europe including appearances at prestigious venues and festivals in all these locations.
Throughout his career, Gerard has released 17 albums on Sefarad Records including his much-acclaimed project, Sephardic Songbook.
